The use of behaviorism in the classroom is very common and will likely persist to assess student learning. However, the educator must carefully develop learning activities so that they provide prompt feedback while supporting recall of the concepts.
While Behaviorism is not the only way that students learn, it is an important learning theory that instructors can use in developing activities to support learning.
Behaviorism's popularity today may be, in part, because it explains how we react without having to understand what is happening in our minds which makes experimentation much simpler, observable, and straightforward.
Rewards and punishment then become important tools for learning, which, in this context, can be defined as a change in behavior based on a response to stimuli.
